Hub News: Data Searching

Data underpins most corporate activity and the way it is handled can make the difference between success and failure. Thinking SAFE™, a leading innovator in data back-up, recovery and archive solutions, is starting work to develop new technology for secure searching of compressed and encrypted data storage.

This three-year CASE PhD project is being undertaken at Royal Holloway, University of  London in conjunction with Professor Fionn Murtagh. It aims to develop new ways to search huge quantities of compressed and encrypted storage and will initially focus on searching corporate data stores in excess of 100 terrabytes containing more than ten million documents.

Hub Director Mike Lunch says, “Four years ago Thinking SAFE™ joined the Surrey Hub network as a pre-revenue business with an embryonic product and moved into the Royal Holloway Enterprise Centre.    It has grown a customer base and revenue to the point where it can now embark on this co-funded research project. This demonstrates the real benefits that can come from creating enterprise centres with business support for growing companies on a university campus or science park.”
