Organic packaging takes off

A Reading Enterprise Hub client is looking for funding to expand on its early success manufacturing a new type of biodegradable packaging material.

Valueform, based in Basingstoke, Hampshire makes biodegradable food trays and packaging using waste maize leaves supplied by farmers. The company ran a successful trial with The Prince Charles Duchy Home Farm in 2005 followed by consumer research which showed overwhelming support for the concept and product.

Company Director Prakash Korde said, “The packaging is an entirely new concept. The issue is what happens to the product after use; unlike plastic our packaging is 100% compostable.”
